John Armstrong

Deputy Head, Investment Banking
John is Deputy Head of Investment Banking. In addition to identifying and delivering financial and advisory solutions for the firm’s clients, he is responsible for shaping and executing the firm’s investment banking strategy across its various industry coverage groups. He was previously Co-Head of Global Mergers & Acquisitions and responsible for the firm’s full-suite of M&A advisory services, including advising on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, buyouts, valuations and fairness opinions.
John joined BMO Capital Markets in 2003 after working with other investment banks in Toronto and New York. He has approximately 20 years of investment banking experience and has acted as a strategic advisor to numerous boards and executive teams across multiple industries. John has been involved in many of the firm’s most significant investment banking mandates over the past several years, and has spent considerable time advancing BMO Capital Markets’ international businesses. He has advised companies based in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
John holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia and an MBA with Honours from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Beyond his professional commitments, John is a passionate supporter of SickKids Hospital and the United Way.
